Abstract
Vlad Smitrovich is an emerging American author and screenwriter. He is currently affiliated with Canadian production company Media Factory International, who produced his first feature film Afreen (2018), which has received over three dozen festival awards worldwide. He is also a producing partner with the independent Maryland-based production company Strange Weather Pictures, which is currently developing its debut feature Black Magic Rising, a zombie-themed horror-comedy.
A lifelong history and aviation buff, and confessed fan of disaster melodrama, Vlad is hard at work on his debut book, a narrative nonfiction account of the crash of American Airlines Flight 191 at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on May 25, 1979. The accident killed all 271 aboard the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and two ground bystanders, in what remains the deadliest aviation accident in United States history, and was the deadliest aviation-related disaster on American soil until the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The as-yet-untitled work will be the first of its kind in four decades.
